What are the responsibilities and job description for the CHAPLAIN position at COVENANT WOODS?
Covenant Woods located in Hanover County, Virginia is seeking a Full-Time Chaplain to serve our Continued Care Retirement Community.
The Chaplain will develop and direct a comprehensive ministry of spiritual care for the residents and staff of Covenant Woods. Makes self-available to residents, residents’ families, and staff, regardless of religious affiliation or beliefs, to assist them in integrating their personal experiences from a faith perspective and to facilitate spiritual growth.
This position entails significant energy, sound judgment, administrative ability, and a compassionate presence, serving as a calm, loving, supportive, and confidential resource for the residents. The Chaplain provides care and programming for residents across all levels of living, including Independent Living (homes and apartments), Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing.
Schedule: Monday - Friday with occasional evenings and weekends as needed
Compensation: Based on years of relevant experience
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor of Arts degree from a recognized college and Master of Divinity Degree from an accredited theological seminary.
- Clinical residency work in an accredited program completing a minimum of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education – four preferred or experience as a Chaplain in a retirement community.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrates clinical competencies
- Experience and/or strong preference in working with elderly
- Respect for residents’ spiritual and religious preferences
- Excellent English speaking and listening skills
- Excellent inter-personal relations and team-work ability
Some Job Responsibilities:
- Assesses the spiritual needs of residents to record and facilitate the development of appropriate spiritual care plans.
- Provides spiritual support when resident is hospitalized. Hospital visits will be made twice a week as needed.
- Is available to residents, their families, and staff for consultation on ethical issues, advance directives, conflict resolution, grief work, and other appropriate concerns.
- Responsible for addressing ethical concerns and issues with Covenant Woods’ residents and staff.
- Designs and provides leadership for religious ceremonies - worship, sacraments, memorial services, holiday day observances, and other special events.
- Is a participant in daily Care Team meetings, providing insight from a spiritual care perspective.
- Participates in other meetings and workgroups as appropriate.
- Participates in local clergy and chaplaincy organizations that facilitate professional growth and support.
