Deaf and Hard of Hearing Aide
Support students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in a school-based setting where communication and connection are central to the role. This position offers a consistent weekday schedule and the chance to work closely with students in classrooms and across campus.
About the Role
As a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Aide, you’ll assist students in accessing classroom instruction and navigating the school day. You’ll use American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication methods to help reinforce learning, support daily routines, and promote student independence. This is a collaborative position working alongside teachers, specialists, and other support staff.
What You'll Do
- Use ASL or visual communication methods to support students in K–12 classrooms
- Assist during lessons, activities, transitions, and mealtimes
- Help reinforce instructional content and classroom routines
- Monitor and assist with hearing aids, FM systems, or other assistive devices
- Support personal care needs when necessary (e.g., feeding, toileting, mobility)
- Document student support and assist with IEP-related notes
- Collaborate regularly with educators and student support teams
What You'll Need
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One of the following: associate degree, 48 college credits, or passing paraeducator exam
- Basic ASL skills or experience with communication methods for DHH students
- At least six months of experience working with children or individuals with disabilities
- Strong communication skills, patience, and reliability
