About the Position:Under the direction of the Senior Communications Dispatcher, efficiently and promptly dispatches telecommunications messages and information to and from field personnel and law enforcement agencies. Performs jail operations activities to help maintain order and security in County detention facility. Prepares and maintains required records and reports.
- Answers all emergency and conventional telephone lines; obtains vital information and dispatches instructions to appropriate law enforcement, fire, EMS, or emergency preparedness agency; tracks progress of officers to ensure officer safety.
- Monitors and operates the telecommunication equipment for the receipt or relaying of various information.
- Monitors various law enforcement and emergency response radio communications, alarm panels, radio stations, weather radio, etc.
- Maintains accurate records of all calls received; enters into the computer a variety of data concerning calls received, cases, etc.

Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Equivalent to the completion of twelfth (12th) grade.
- One (1) year of clerical experience is preferred.
License & Special Requirements:
• Must successfully complete a POST Dispatch Code course within one (1) year of employment.
• Must possess a valid California driver’s license.
• Must be able to pass an extensive background investigation prior to employment.
The Department is recruiting to fill multiple vacancies.
In addition, Tehama County is also establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Communications Dispatcher, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list

New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
