Job Description
General Overview
Under direction, records bookings and releases into jail register for correctional facilities; updates charges, new bookings and releases on personal computer; prepares list of inmate release dates, types and distributes to corrections personnel. Performs other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.
Completion of secondary education and coursework in bookkeeping; knowledge of agency legal terminology, corrections and the court system, or equivalent combinations of training and/or experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of department policies and procedures; corrections; agency legal terminology; court process and procedures; bookkeeping. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in familiar context; understand system of bookkeeping procedures; interpret variety of instructions in written, oral, picture or schedule form; read, copy and record figures accurately; maintain accurate records; arrange items in numerical or alphabetical order; define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Skill in operation of personal computer. (*Indicates developed after employment).
Job Duties The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by this classification.
Records bookings of correctional facilities; places names alphabetically into jail register along with date and time of booking and charges; assigns to one of four Courts; calculates date of release; records releases into jail register {e.g., names, date and time of release). Updates charges, new bookings and any releases on personal computer; types report and distributes to 1.0, Bureau, Court System, Corrections Administrator, various ranges, roster clerk, etc. Prepares list of inmate release dates; types list, makes copies and distributes to booking desk to assure inmates released as scheduled. Performs other duties as required (e.g.., expunges inmate records; prepares inmate statistics of number of hours spent in jail, number of bookings and releases, and number of inmates per shift; reports local violations of city ordinances to Corrections Administrator; updates charges on booking sheets and roster; meets emergency release quota for allowable number of inmate population.
