About The Position

The County of San Luis Obispo Public Health Department is excited to announce a recruitment for a full-time Public Health Nutritionist I to join our Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program.

This position is part of the Public Health Nutritionist I/II career series and plays a meaningful role in supporting the health of families in our community. Public Health Nutritionists help plan, coordinate and deliver nutrition and breastfeeding services for WIC participants, provide education and technical expertise, and collaborate with community partners to ensure high-quality, equitable services.

Examples Of Duties

  • Assess income and residency for program eligibility
  • Provide individualized nutrition and breastfeeding assessments and counseling for high- and low-risk WIC participants
  • Coordinate nutrition and breastfeeding services and make referrals to medical or social services
  • Support training and mentoring for paraprofessional staff
  • Assist with staff meetings, quality improvement activities and regulatory compliance
  • Oversee day-to-day activities at assigned clinic sites and serve as Vendor Liaison

Education And Experience

A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:

Possession of a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited college or university in nutrition, dietetics, or a closely related field.
