What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Public Health Engineer position at County of Rockland?
The Rockland County Department of Health is seeking a candidate to perform professional engineering work of a complex nature involving responsibility for the planning, organizing, and directing of one or more specialized environmental health programs (i.e. Drinking Water Supply, Air Pollution Control, Water Pollution Control, Sewage, etc.
Candidates must possess thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of public health engineering and environmental health programs as related to issues of public health; good knowledge of the provisions of the Public Health Law and State Sanitary Code as it pertains to environmental health and public health engineering; the ability to plan, develop, direct and administer public health engineering and environmental health programs; and the ability to plan and organize the work of others, communicate effectively and understand and interpret codes, regulations, and laws pertaining to public health.
The work is performed under the general supervision of an Associate Public Health Engineer
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and six years of professional level experience in public health engineering (e.g. public health hazardous waste program, public health air or water pollution control, public health hazardous materials management and/or response).
- A Master’s or Doctorate degree in Engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Other Requirements and Information:
- A Professional Engineer license issued by the New York State Department of Education must be maintained throughout the course of employment in this title; and
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle license or accessibility to transportation to meet travel and field work requirements in a timely and efficient manner.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary and benefits are competitive with the public sector market including but not limited to the following:
- $105,865.00 annual starting salary
- Rockland Association of Management Union Contract that includes annual salary increases and additional annual COLA increases through 2028.
