About The Position
The County of Riverside's Transportation Department is seeking to fill one Tree Trimmer vacancy that will be assigned to the Transportation Highway Operations division in Riverside.
The selected candidate will support the department by performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and trimming of trees to promote their health and appearance, trimming to clear for traffic, power or telephone lines in a manner which accomplishes the objective without creating hazards or delays.
The selected individual must possess a valid Class B California Driver's License and have the ability to climb trees using hooks and ropes to reach heights up to 100 feet, operate a boom bucket, and work in such a manner so as not to damage property within the debris zone.
Schedule: 6am - 4:30pm Tuesday - Friday
Under general supervision, performs skilled work in the topping, trimming, felling, and removal of trees along roads and rights-of-way; performs other related duties as required.
The Tree Trimmer is a journey level classification and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position. The Tree Trimmer is characterized by the fact that it requires skill in the trimming of trees to clear for traffic or to clear power or telephone lines in a manner which accomplishes the objective without creating further hazards, delays, damage, or unnecessary disfigurement of trees. Incumbents must have the ability to climb trees using hooks and ropes, and work at heights up to 100 feet.

Examples Of Essential Duties
Experience: One year of working with a tree trimming crew, which included training in tree climbing and working from boom bucket.
Other Requirements
License: Possession of a valid Class B California Driver's License. A Class A California Driver's License may be required for some positions.
Knowledge of: The materials, methods and equipment used in tree trimming, felling and topping; safety rules and practices pertaining to tree trimming work.
Ability to: Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance; climb and work at considerable heights; maintain equipment; understand and follow instructions.
Skills: Climbing trees and the use of power saws when trimming trees.
Physical requirements : M ust be able to perform tasks involving lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling heavy objects with assistance, and walking on uneven or wet surfaces while carrying equipment such as power tools and tree trimming equipment.
The majority of this position will entail working outdoors in inclement weather conditions (rain, sleet, wind and summer temperatures).
For those positions designated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) as safety-sensitive, applicants are required to complete a DOT mandated alcohol and drug-screening. (A positive test or refusal to test during the past two years will disqualify an applicant from consideration for County employment.) Reference checks from former DOT regulated employers are also required. Applicants must submit a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving record prior to hire.
Employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT alcohol/drug testing in the following situations: random, reasonable suspicion/cause, return-to-duty, and post-accident. - Climb trees using climbing hooks and ropes or boom bucket; trim trees with chain and circular saws in order to clear power and telephone lines, shape trees and provide traffic clearance.
- Work in such a manner that falling limbs do not damage property.
- Trim trees and brush from ground level; fell trees; cut up limbs and trees with chain saw and feed cut limbs and brush into chipper.
- Sharpen saw blades and maintain equipment; drive County/equipment trucks.
- Work as grounds worker for other trimmers by raising and lowering tools and tree limbs with ropes; ensure safe practices.
