What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Bus Driver - *Up to $5,000 NEW HIRE BONUS position at County of Nevada?
The Nevada County Transit division is looking for a part-time safety conscious individual who is excited to provide vital transportation services to our county residents! The candidate will typically be scheduled to cover driving shifts between Tuesday-Friday of each week and will be expected to work a full 8-hour shift on Saturdays dedicated to sanitation of the fleet. We are looking for a driver with a positive outlook and the following knowledge and skills.
Knowledge of:
- Safe, defensive driving practices
- California Motor Vehicle Code applicable to the operation of vehicles in public transportation
- Basic maintenance of transit vehicles and related equipment
- California Commercial Driver Handbook
Skill in:
- Operating a transit vehicle safely
- Maintaining order among passengers on a bus
- Good customer service skills
- Understanding and implementing verbal and written instructions
- Proper use of two-way radio system
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those in the course of work

- Completion of twelfth grade or receipt of G.E.D.
- Minimum of six months of driving experience in one or more of the following: public transit, a school district transit operation, or driving a commercial vehicle.
- Passenger Endorsement Certificate permitting the licensee to operate public transit vehicles equipped with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 26,001 pounds or more.
- California Class A or B Vehicle Operator’s License
- Department of Motor Vehicles Medical Certificate/DL-51
- Vehicle Transit Training (VTT) Certificate required within three months of hire
- Passenger transit driving experience preferred
- Possession of current and valid Certification for Operation of a School Bus is highly desirable
- Possession of current and valid Certification for the operation of airbrakes is beneficial, but not required.
