Annual Salary ($61,021.71 - $81,846.82) PLUS 8% Holiday Pay. The successful candidate is a team-oriented paramedic/firefighter able to demonstrate the ability to function well as a member of an EMS team. This individual must be capable of working in an environment that is ethnically & culturally diverse.  The ideal candidate must demonstrate superior knowledge of local, county & state paramedic protocols.

Primary duties:

  • Working at assigned station with one partner on a forty-eight-hour shift.
  • Provide Basic Life Support and/or Advanced Life Support treatment to victims, in accordance with California State and ICEMA Region Paramedic Scope of Practice.
  • Performs necessary medical treatment and assists in patient extrication from vehicles involved in traffic collisions or accidents with the assistance of other first responder agencies.
  • Responds into the back county by foot, vehicle, helicopter or by whatever means necessary to render treatment.
  • Operates rescue unit in presence of inclement weather, road closures and possible avalanche danger.
  • Complete run paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.

Secondary Duties:

  • Perform or assist in over-the-side rescues of victims as trained.
  • Responds to the fire ground to treat victims of fire, explosions, or building collapse. Assists with emergency incident rehabilitation on the fire ground as assigned.
  • Perform or assist in ice, swiftwater and low angle rescue of victims as trained
Knowledge of:
  • Paramedic Scope of Practice as defined and required by the State of California
  • BLS and ALS protocols as required by the local emergency medical services agency (ICEMA)
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Emergency medical techniques
  • Rescue techniques
  • Defensive driving
  • Vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Recordkeeping procedures and methods of documentation.

Ability and willingness to:

  • Perform functions of the local EMS Agency Paramedic Scope of Practice
  • Become certified as a CPR Instructor or other technical instruction as approved by the EMS Chief
  • Learn the geography of local area
  • Think and act quickly in emergencies
  • Judge situations and people accurately
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Prepare concise written reports and complete all required clerical duties
  • Work safely under hazardous conditions
  • Maintain vehicles, medical and non-medical equipment
  • Work harmoniously with partners and those contacted while work.
  • Work for 24 hours, 48 hours or as scheduled
  • Follow directions from supervising personnel
  • Perform work related to public relations as required (e.g. school demonstrations, CPR classes, standby events, interagency drills, etc.).
  • Perform any or all duties requested or assigned by the EMS Chief or Station Captain.

Paramedic I:

  • Successful completion of an Accredited Paramedic School.
  • Ability to obtain possession of valid Paramedic accreditation from ICEMA prior to employment

Paramedic II:

  • Requirements for Paramedic I; and
  • Minimum of six months of previous full-time paramedic experience and a minimum of six months of employment with Mono County as a Paramedic-I 
  • Possession of valid Paramedic accreditation from ICEMA

Special Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid Paramedic License from the State of California; and
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s license
  • Possession of a valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) card from American Heart Association
  • Possession of a valid Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS) card from American Heart Association, American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR card or equivalent
  • Possession of a valid Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) card from American Heart Association
  • ICS and NIMS training: ICS-100b, ICS-200b, IS-700a, IS-800b
  • Ability to pass extensive criminal background check In addition to the above requirements:


The test/interview will consist of (but not be limited to) skills testing, writtent testing, and an orla interview. Applicants should wear casual applicable clothing for testing stations and clothing of their choice for the interview process.

A current Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT) certificate is required prior to hiring.
