Under general supervision, the Associate Engineer I performs a variety of entry-level professional civil engineering and land surveying duties in both office and field settings. This position supports the planning, design, and delivery of public works projects, including roads, bridges, drainage systems, and related infrastructure. Responsibilities include preparing plans, specifications, and cost estimates; conducting field inspections; reviewing consultant work; analyzing engineering data; and assisting with project coordination and permitting. Incumbents ensure compliance with applicable laws, standards, and contract requirements while providing technical assistance to staff, agencies, and the public.

A collaborative mindset, professionalism in public interactions, and the ability to contribute to a team-oriented environment are essential. Candidates who bring experience with engineering software, project coordination, and regulatory compliance will be especially well-suited for this role.

The Public Works Department is responsible for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of the County’s infrastructure, including roads, bridges, drainage systems, airports, and other public facilities. The department plays a critical role in supporting public safety, environmental stewardship, and the overall quality of life for residents and visitors.

Training and Experience
Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the
required knowledge and abilities might be: 


Two (2) years of increasingly responsible technical engineering experience in public works engineering at a level equivalent to an Engineering Technician.
AND
Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field. Special Requirements: Possession of a driver’s license valid in California.

Salary : $105,768 - $128,565
