SENIOR MECHANIC:
FULL-TIME POSITION - Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.Salary: $43,000 $5000 stipend. Consistent opportunity for overtime.
Under direction, performs varied mechanical work involved in the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and mechanized equipment; works with various machines, testing equipment, and hand tools common to the trade; takes the lead over and gives assignments to mechanics of lower grade; does other related duties as required.
Essential Functions -
- Perform both routine repair/maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
- Use diagnostic equipment to discover mechanical malfunction and repair to working condition.
- Reconditions and replaces parts such as pistons, bearings, gears, valves, and bushings, and using engine lathes, boring machines, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- May test drive motor vehicles and/or construction equipment on public streets.
- Operate Towing Machines for the transport of disabled vehicles.
Requirements:
Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B or higher
Successful completion of one (1) year of training in automotive technology at an accredited community college or vocational school.
Three (3) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of various types of motor vehicles and/or construction equipment.
NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the required year of formal training may substitute one (1) additional year of experience as outlined above.
NOTE: An Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification in one of the following specialties from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence may be substituted for the formal training: A-1 Engine Repair, A-6 Electrical/Electronic Systems, A-8 Engine Performance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -
Knowledge of varied types of motors and their operation.
Knowledge of causes for motor failure and steps necessary to correct the condition.
Knowledge of tools and equipment used in tearing motors down, installing new parts, and reassembling motors and testing motors, brakes, lights, and other parts of vehicles and equipment.
Knowledge of procedures for obtaining, storing, recording, safeguarding, and using equipment, materials, and supplies.
Must be able to take direction.
Must have effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Must be comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
Must be detailed and well organized.
