What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Mechanic Diesel position at County of Monmouth?
SENIOR MECHANIC DIESEL, 40 hours, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
Pay:$43,000 $5,000 stipend.
Position has consistent opportunity for overtime.
Essential Functions:
1. Perform both routine repair/maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical issues on diesel engines.
2. Use diagnostic equipment to discover mechanical malfunction and repair to working condition.
3. Reconditions and replaces parts such as pistons, bearings, gears, valves, and bushings, and using engine lathes, boring machines, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments.
4. May test drive motor vehicles and/or construction equipment on public streets.
5. OPERATE LIGHT, MEDIUM, AND HEAVY TOWING EQUIPMENT FOR DISABLED VEHICLES.
Requirements:
Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B or higher with Airbrake Endorsement
Successful completion of one (1) year of training in diesel engine repair at an accredited community college or vocational school.
Three (3) years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of diesel engines.
NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the required year of formal training may substitute one (1) additional year of experience as outlined above.
NOTE: Possession of a certificate as a diesel mechanic issued by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence may be substituted for one (1) year of formal training.
Heavy Duty Towing Certification a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of varied types of diesel engines and their operation.
Knowledge of causes for engine failure and steps necessary to correct the condition.
Knowledge of tools and equipment used in disassembling engines, installing new parts, reassembling engines, and verifying operation after repairs are made.
Knowledge and ability to correctly and accurately diagnose complex diesel/gasoline emission repairs using a scan tool/laptop.
Knowledge and ability to diagnose and repair various vehicle electrical systems.
Knowledge and ability to diagnose and repair/replace various steering, suspension, chassis and braking components.
Knowledge of procedures for obtaining, storing, recording, safeguarding, and using equipment, materials, and supplies.
Must be able to take direction.
Must have effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Must be comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
Must be detailed and well organized.
