What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Program Specialist position at County Of Maui?
Performs professional work in the planning, development, coordination, and administration of County housing and community development programs. Conducts research, evaluates projects, monitors compliance, and provides technical assistance in support of affordable housing, rental assistance, and community revitalization initiatives. Works collaboratively with public agencies, private developers, and community organizations to advance the County’s housing goals; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Coordinates the County's HOME and HTF Programs.
Coordinates with the Department’s divisions and programs on housing initiatives. Supervises the HOME and HTF staff.
Coordinates special projects and programs funded by federal programs including the Department’s homeownership assistance program.
Performs other related duties as required.
Training and Experience:
A combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from a college or university, in business, government, administration, or related field.
License Requirement: Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver’s license (equivalent to State of Hawaii Type 3).
Knowledge of:
• Federal, State, and County laws, rules, and regulations relating to affordable housing and community development.
• Principles and practices of housing program development, financing, and administration.
• Project planning, grant management, and contract compliance.
• Real property management and housing market dynamics.
• Research and statistical methods, report writing, and data analysis.
• Socioeconomic factors influencing housing demand and community needs.
• Principles and practices of public administration and community engagement.
Ability to:
• Plan, organize, and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Analyze and interpret housing policies, laws, and development agreements.
• Conduct research, evaluate data, and prepare clear, concise written reports.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with public officials, developers, community groups, and staff.
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Exercise independent judgment and initiative in carrying out assignments.Salary: $6,043/month ($72,516/year)
