Essential Job Functions
Performs work on commercial and residential roofing systems.
Sets up and works safely from safety harness, ladders, and scaffolding.
Removes damaged roofs and flashings.
Repairs and installs built-up roofing systems (BUR), modified bitumen roofing (MBS), composition shingling, tile roofs, and single ply roof systems.
Performs waterproofing tasks such as applying membranes or cementing flash strips to structures and joints.
Installs roofing materials such as asphalt roll roofing, asphalt shingles, elastomeric coatings, tiles, and other roofing systems.
Performs torch down and cold process methods to various roofing systems.
Cuts roofing materials to fit on roof surfaces, structures, and penetrations.
Locates problems on roofs and determines the best repair procedures.
Disposes of wastes and debris safely.
Cleans and maintains tools, materials, and equipment.
Interprets plans, specifications, blueprints, and schematic drawings.
Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites.
Supervises the work of helpers and laborers, as required.

Requirements
REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:
OPTION 1: Completion of a recognized apprentice training program with a three-year duration in roofing installation, maintenance, and repair.*
OPTION 2: Four (4) years of experience in roofing installation, maintenance, and repair, one year of which must have been at the journey-level.**
LICENSE
A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions. Candidates offered this position would be required to show proof of a driver licenseprior to appointment.
Out-of-state applicants must have a valid license from the state in which they reside at the time of filing. Out-of-state applicants will be required to obtain a California Class C Driver License prior to appointment.
LICENSE INFORMATION
Successful applicants for this position will be required to obtain a copy of their driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before being appointed. A copy of your driving record must be presented at the time of your appointment. License must not be suspended, restricted, or revoked. AN APPLICANT WHOSE DRIVING RECORD SHOWS THREE (3) OR MORE MOVING VIOLATIONS WITHIN THE LAST YEAR WILL NOT BE APPOINTED.
PHYSICAL CLASS
Physical Class IV – Arduous: This class involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces. It includes those positions that occasionally demand extraordinary physical activity such as those in Safety positions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION
As part of this application process, applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire. The questionnaire contains a pre-investigative questionnaire which will be utilized as part of the background investigation process to ensure applicants meet the standards set forth by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Applicants who fail the pre-investigative questionnaire will be disqualified and will have to wait three (3) months from the date of the disqualification in order to reapply.

EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of a Structured Interview assessing: Applied Experience and Training, Troubleshooting, Interpersonal Skills, Safety, Time Management, and Verbal Communication, weighted 100%.
APPLICANTS MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON THE EXAMINATION IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE REGISTER.
TESTING ACCOMMODATION
