DEFINITION: 
Renders professional medical services to patients as part of the first year of a post graduate educational program under the supervision of medical staff.

SOME OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Examines, diagnoses and treats patients in admitting and treatment rooms, clinics, wards and special services.
  • Develops and documents an initial plan of care based on patient history and physical examination.
  • Formulates a diagnosis and consults with medical staff concerning appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • Re-evaluates patients individually and as a part of a patient care team on a routine basis to note condition and progress and modify patient care plans as indicated by the healthcare team.
  • Orders and prescribes medications and observe for effects and adverse reactions on patients under immediate supervision of attending physicians.
  • Orders and interprets routine findings of diagnostic, imaging, and laboratory tests and reports to medical staff.
  • Records medical case histories, physical findings, and progress notes to detail treatment on patients according to hospital policy and/or JCAHO standards.
  • Keeps patient case records current and prepares reports; fills out forms and corresponds with other parties involved in the medical care of hospital patients maintaining confidentiality according to State and Federal laws and hospital policies.
  • Provides emergency medical care to patients as advised by medical staff.
  • Performs additional medical duties of physicians in any specialty area to which the individual may be assigned.



REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:

A Doctor of Medicine degree awarded by an authorized medical school-OR- Degree of Doctor of Osteopathy conferred by an approved osteopathic school- AND- Current Registration with the Medical Board of California or the Osteopathic Medical Board of California as a student in the first post graduate year of training.

PHYSICAL CLASS:

3 - Moderate. This class requires that the position holder stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working or irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

EXAMINATION CONTENT 

This examination, weighted 100%, will consist of an evaluation of experience and desirable qualifications based upon your responses to the application and supplemental questionnaire.

A score of 70% or higher on this examination is required to be placed on the register.

ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION: 

Candidates who passed the examination are placed on an eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months. We will use this register to fill vacancies as they occur. The eligible register for this examination will be used to fill vacancies in the Department of Mental Health. In lieu of traditional banding, an alternative banding procedure may be employed consistent with Civil Service Rule11.01(D).

AVAILABLE SHIFT 

Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

The acceptance of the submitted application will depend on whether the Minimum Requirements are clearly met. Online applications must show complete education and work experience information vital to evaluate applicants qualifications. Education information section must include name and address of school attended, complete dates attended, name of course/s taken, number of units earned, and degree/s earned. Work experience section must include job title, employer name and address, name of work area/facility, actual payroll title held and not the working and/or functional titles, from/to dates of employment including month, day and year, total number of months, total number of hours worked per week - not a range of hours (full or part-time), and complete and detailed description of related job duties. If range of hours is provided, experience will be prorated based on the lowest number of hours worked per week. LIST separately each job experience to be evaluated. Information provided is considered provisional and requires verification. Applicants may be rejected at any stage of the selection process.
