What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Help - Public Works position at County of Goodhue?
SEEKING SEASONAL EMPLOYEES FOR SUMMER 2026
Goodhue County is seeking applications from students enrolled in a post-secondary school that are looking for a 40 hour/week seasonal job. Seasonal employees will be working from mid-May or early June through mid to late August, or when you are required to report to class, whichever comes first. There are currently two types of positions are available for seasonal employees within the Goodhue County Public Works Department.
Road Maintenance
Daily duties may include but are not limited to: flagging traffic for road maintenance projects, assisting in the area of road sign repair, mowing and trimming, shop cleaning, and construction project assignments. Seasonal employees in this position will be working 4 – 10-hour days, Monday – Thursday, with regular work hours of 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM; this schedule is subject to change. Employees may occasionally be asked to work some hours beyond the normal 10-hour day to assist with specific projects. Seasonal employees in this position will be reporting to the facility located at 2140 Pioneer Road, Red Wing, MN, and will be working outdoors in various locations throughout the county.
Administration/Accounting
Daily duties may include but are not limited to: first point of contact for callers and visitors, data entry, website maintenance, general clerical duties, and special projects as assigned. Seasonal employees in this position will be working primarily in the Red Wing Public Works office building.
A valid driver’s license is required for all positions. Starting compensation is $17.50 per hour.

Pursuant to MN Statute, seasonal assignments are limited to 67 working days per calendar year or 100 working days per calendar year if the employees are under the age of 22, are full-time students enrolled in a nonprofit or public educational institution prior to being hired by the employer, and have indicated, either in an application for employment or by being enrolled at an educational institution for the next academic year or term, an intention to continue as students during or after their temporary employment.
