Acceptable Experience and Education
High school diploma or equivalent plus at least two (2) years’ experience in facilities maintenance or a related field.

Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certificates and Licenses Required
Must have or obtain by date of hire a valid driver's license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of El Paso.

In order to access the County’s network and systems, a personal mobile smart device is required by the hire start date.Essential Duties
Assists licensed mechanics in major projects, including installation, renovation, and repair of electrical plumbing, HVAC, and interior construction, to include drywall and joint compound;

Prepares assigned equipment for safe and efficient operating condition by inspecting prior to and after use;

Paints interior/exterior of facilities; performs rough concrete and carpentry work; paints markings on asphalt, floors or similar surfaces;

Replaces faulty electrical fixtures such as fuses, sockets and switches; makes minor wiring repairs;

Installs and repairs flooring, ceiling tiles, furniture, cubicles, doors, door frames, fixtures, and hardware; changes light bulbs, moves furniture, hangs wall fixtures, and assists departments as directed;

Performs setup and takedown of tables and chairs; arranges conference rooms and building lobby special events; moves furniture;

Performs preparatory work for painting projects by washing walls, filling in or smoothing surfaces, masking areas, and/or setting up scaffolding; 

Repairs and services interior and exterior service elevators by lubricating parts; cleans, adjusts, lubricates, or replaces door closers, locks, latches, hinges and other building hardware;

Utilizes various cleaning, disinfecting and waxing chemicals and compounds; 

Fixes leaks and clears stoppages in sinks and toilets; 

Performs routine grounds maintenance and landscaping at multiple County properties;

Operates and maintains a variety of power and hand tools of the various trades and equipment; performs and schedules regular and preventive maintenance and repair for equipment under charge; ensures proper tools, supplies, materials and equipment are ordered/transported to work sites.

Ensures a safe work zone by proper use of signage and cleaning chemicals and equipment;

Performs duties of subordinate personnel or others as necessary to ensure continuity of operations during absences;

Other Important Duties
Substitutes, if assigned, during temporary absences by performing delegated duties sufficient to maintain continuity of normal operations; 

Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrate commitment through cooperative team and individual efforts; and

Creates a high quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.

Performs such other related duties as may be assigned;

Maintains a safe and healthy work place environment;

On-call availability;

May drive a truck or other light vehicle in the course of duties to and from all county buildings, as needed;

As members of the County of El Paso Emergency Response System, all El Paso County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to train on emergency response and/or perform certain emergency services at the direction of their supervisor.Summary of Position
The Facilities Maintenance Technician under direct supervision performs a variety of mechanical and electro-mechanical maintenance and repair tasks for specific areas during an assigned shift. The incumbent also performs routine and preventive facilities maintenance and general repairs as well as assists licensed mechanics in major projects.Organizational Relationships
Reports to: Facilities Maintenance Technician, Senior and Facilities Superintendent 

Directs: This is a non-supervisory position

Other: Has frequent contact with other Sheriff's Office employees and the general public

Minimum Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of: equipment, materials, methods, and practices used in custodial or general maintenance work; paint preparation and application; safe lifting and carrying practices; safe handling and storage practices for a variety of maintenance tools and supplies, equipment and machines; potential hazards of the materials and equipment used in performing assigned tasks; occupational safety rules and practices associated with performing duties.  

Skill/Ability to: operate custodial and maintenance equipment; plan, coordinate and supervise the performance of simple to moderately complex contract cleaning tasks and projects; perform manipulative tasks requiring eye/hand/foot coordination; perform heavy manual tasks; receive, understand, and carry out verbal and written instructions; be dependable and self-motivated; and establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those contacted during the course of work. Pass a Criminal Background Investigation; and
