The Parks and Recreation Department’s Recreation Aide -Pool is a Full Time – Seasonal position (no benefits). The position requires availability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays.
Has ongoing contact with internal & external customers throughout the day.
Working Conditions
- Must be available to work during the summer season, mid-April through mid-September, day, evening & weekends are required.. Working approximately 35-40 hours per week as the posted schedule permits. Position will be required to work two(2) of the following holiday/holiday weekends: Memorial Day/Weekend; 4th of July/weekend; Labor Day/Weekend. Essential Functions
- Staff the front admissions counter, greet patrons, provide information, process payments, and reconcile daily receipts.
- Provide exceptional customer service by responding to inquiries, assisting patrons, and promoting facility services, programs, and events.
- Operate assigned office equipment and software systems, including cash registers and point-of-sale programs.
- Operate and maintain the concession stand, including taking orders, preparing food and beverages, cleaning/sanitizing equipment, and maintaining inventory
- Perform custodial and facility upkeep tasks, including cleaning restrooms, concession areas, pool deck, and common spaces on a scheduled basis.
- Open and close the facility as scheduled, including securing gates, doors, alarms, and equipment.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of equipment (tables, chairs, audio/visual equipment, etc.) for rentals, programs, and events.
- Enforce facility and pool rules, policies, and regulations, while monitoring patron behavior to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment.
- Inspect and maintain safety and first aid equipment, reporting or removing damaged/unsafe equipment or conditions as needed.
- Monitor and record water quality readings (chlorine, pH, pump pressure, etc.) as required.
- Support private rentals, community programs, sports tourism activities, camps, and special events, including setup/breakdown, patron assistance, and general facility maintenance as needed at the Community Pool and at other Department Facilities.
- Prepare and submit required reports such as accidents, incidents, attendance, and membership records.
- Perform other duties as required to support the successful operation of the facility.
- Assist with minor administrative tasks, such as filing paperwork, updating spreadsheets, or helping with promotional materials.
- Participate in training sessions, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities as assigned.
- Must be at least 16 years on or before hire.
- Completion of the tenth grade or an equivalent combination of education and experience. High school diploma or GED, preferred.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays is required.
- Experience as a cashier or with a point-of-sale system and some experience providing customer service is preferred.
- Must possess satisfactory results of a criminal history background check.
- Possession of First Aid, CPR and AED certifications, or the ability to obtain by May 1.

Working Conditions
- Performed in a high public-use recreation facility where loud noise and multiple activities/events may occur simultaneously, creating distractions.
- Duties are carried out both indoors and outdoors, including during special events and in inclement weather.
- Work environment includes exposure to extreme heat, humidity, vibration, and atmospheric conditions.
- The employee may be exposed to pool chemicals and cleaning agents, requiring adherence to safety guidelines and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens during emergency response or first aid situations, requiring use of PPE.
- Shift schedules will include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.
- Constantly lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds (e.g., tables, chairs, concession supplies, cleaning equipment); frequently lifting up to 50 pounds, Occasionally lifting up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Extended periods of standing and walking are required, as well as periods of sitting at a computer workstation.
- Manual dexterity is necessary to operate cash registers, concession equipment, cleaning tools, and office/computer equipment.
- Vocal communication is required to convey instructions, exchange ideas, and interact with patrons clearly and effectively, sometimes loudly or quickly in a noisy environment.
- Hearing is required to perceive normal speech, receive detailed information, and distinguish sounds for safety.
- Visual acuity is required for reading, computer work, color perception, night/peripheral vision, monitoring patron activity, observing facility conditions, and operating motor vehicles or equipment when necessary.
