What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kennel Operations Assistant Part Time position at COUNTY OF BLOUNT?
Under general supervision of the Director of the Blount County Animal Center (BCAC), the Part-Time Kennel Operations Assistant provides help and support to the staff to ensure the daily operation of the BCAC runs smoothly and efficiently for the team as well as the visitors. The current part-time starting hourly rate of pay is $15.78. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Primarily, Cattery operations;
Clean and sanitize dog kennels and kennel runs, cattery, isolation, and quarantine; including sweeps, mops and sanitizes hallways, as well as outside walkways in these areas on a daily basis;
Clean and sanitize crates, portable kennels, and the transport vans;
Empty trash cans and remove debris from common areas and grounds, outside kennels, and exercise areas as necessary;
Dust and clean countertops, windowsills, tables, and other surfaces as needed;
Clean windows and glass doors, light fixtures, and signage;
Dispense prescribed medications;
Assist with animal intakes;
Observe animals and report abnormal behavior or other signs of a possible medical issue;
Supervise community service;
Willingly work in other departments as needed and requested;
Perform other routine maintenance activities when required; and
Perform other assigned duties when required.
It is mandatory for Part-Time Kennel Operations Assistant to:
Gain and implement knowledge of departmental practices and systems;
Skillfully use small office equipment, including copy machines and/or multi-line telephone systems, and computers for data entry;
Thrive in a diverse environment while surrounded with excess noises from animals; dogs/puppies barking, cats/kittens meowing, etc;
Maintain a professional demeanor and an orientation towards customer service at all times, even during emotional and/or controversial situations;
Organize and communicate effectively;
Maintain constructive and cooperative professional relationships with the public, staff, leadership, elected officials, and volunteers; and
Cooperate with fellow employees as team members to achieve the goals of BCAC.
High School Diploma;
Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience;
Minimum age requirement is eighteen (18) years old;
No allergies to cats and dogs;
Pre-exposure protection, three (3) doses of rabies vaccine is required and paid for by the County; and
Valid driver’s license.
Work requires lifting and carrying (up to 100 pounds); balancing, crawling, reaching and manipulating objects, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
Most work is performed in a well-lighted, modern kennel setting with centrally controlled heating and air conditioning, or outside in conditions which may include heat, cold, rain, or other inclement weather.
