Job Description:
Country Lakes Event Venue is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and service-oriented Banquet Captain to lead and coordinate the setup, execution, and breakdown of events. This hybrid role combines hands-on leadership with event coordination responsibilities to ensure that every event runs smoothly, efficiently, and professionally. The ideal candidate will manage both front- and back-of-house operations, supervise banquet staff, and uphold the highest standards of hospitality, cleanliness, and presentation throughout the venue.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Staff Supervision:
- Lead, supervise, and motivate banquet staff during event setup, service, and breakdown
- Ensure team members are aware of their roles, timelines, and event expectations
- Monitor staff performance and provide on-the-spot direction and support
- Confirm accurate employee clock-in/out times and manage staff breaks
- Conduct final walk-throughs before events begin and oversee all transitions during the event
Event Execution & Guest Experience:
- Greet and welcome guests; provide high-level customer service throughout the event
- Maintain the event timeline and ensure smooth transitions between phases (e.g., ceremony to dinner)
- Manage food and beverage service, including alcohol, ensuring professionalism and compliance with safety regulations
- Direct the dismissal of guest tables to buffet lines with clarity and efficiency
- Monitor atmosphere settings (lighting, temperature, music) to ensure guest comfort and satisfaction
Venue & Banquet Setup:
- Oversee the complete setup of banquet rooms, including table arrangements, chairs, linens, centerpieces, and service stations
- Ensure buffet lines and beverage stations are clean, stocked, and visually appealing
- Set up and maintain warming stations and sternos throughout food service
- Coordinate décor according to event requirements and make real-time adjustments as needed
- Manage setup and breakdown of porch and outdoor furniture
Inventory & Supplies Management:
- Organize and maintain inventory of linens, décor, tableware, and other event essentials
- Ensure all supplies are clean, organized, and ready for use before each event
- Work with kitchen and bar staff to verify food, drink, and supply readiness
- Open and secure liquor room before and after events; monitor bartender setup and paperwork
- Reorganize and restock event supplies post-event
Cleanliness, Compliance & Closing Duties:
- Perform and oversee regular bathroom checks, trash removal, and surface sanitation during events
- Supervise dishwashing station operations and ensure proper breakdown procedures (e.g., mopping, sweeping, trash)
- Prevent guests from exiting the venue with alcoholic beverages
- At event conclusion, ensure A/C or heat, lighting, and all equipment are turned off and locked up
- Secure and clean all areas, including bar, banquet room, porch, and restrooms
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Hospitality or Event Management preferred
- ServSafe and Ohio Alcohol Server Training certification preferred
- Must be 21 years old to serve alcohol
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in banquet service, hospitality, or event coordination
- Strong leadership, communication, and multitasking skills
- Ability to manage staff effectively and maintain a calm, positive demeanor under pressure
- High attention to detail and ability to maintain a polished, professional event atmosphere
- Reliable, punctual, and capable of working flexible hours, including nights and weekends
