Description
We are seeking a passionate and service-driven Cafe Supervisor to lead daily operations at Messenger Cafe, located within the Cascade Hotel. This role blends hands-on barista expertise with supervisory leadership, ensuring exceptional coffee quality, elevated guest service, and a smooth, efficient café operation.
Messenger Café, situated within the Cascade Hotel—a Tribute Portfolio property—is a vibrant coffee destination known for its artisan-level roasts and exceptional service. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve high-quality coffee and tea beverages in accordance with established recipes, brand standards, and guest preferences
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the café, including equipment, counters, seating areas, and storage
- Ensure consistent execution of food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling practices
- Assist with food preparation as needed, including pastries and light café offerings
- Monitor product quality, presentation, and portion control
Supervisory & Leadership Duties
- Supervise daily café operations, ensuring efficient workflow and exceptional guest experiences
- Lead by example through hands-on service and professional guest engagement
- Train, coach, and mentor baristas on beverage preparation, customer service standards, and café procedures
- Assist with scheduling, shift coverage, and break management to meet business demands
- Provide performance feedback and support associate development
- Address guest concerns and service recovery situations professionally and promptly
- Support management with inventory control, ordering, and waste reduction efforts
- Ensure cash handling procedures, register accuracy, and opening/closing duties are followed
- Enforce company policies, safety standards, and hotel operating procedures
Team Collaboration
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team environment
- Communicate effectively with hotel leadership and other departments as needed
- Support company initiatives, brand standards, and service culture expectations
Experience & Qualifications
- Previous café, barista, or food service experience required; supervisory experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of coffee preparation, brewing methods, and café equipment
- Working knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong time management and organizational abilities in a fast-paced environment
- Basic math skills for cash handling and register reconciliation
- Passion for coffee culture and commitment to continuous learning
Education & Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
- Strong understanding of the English language
- Prior guest or customer service training preferred
Licenses & Compliance
- Food Handler’s License (KCMO) – required within 30 days of hire
- Liquor License (KCMO) – required within 30 days of hire
- Must successfully complete a drug screen and background check in accordance with federal and state laws
