Prevention Educator
General Responsibilities: The Prevention Educator will provide evidence-based curriculum in Warren and Washington County School districts, and/or facilitate community-based education activities and programs as they relate to the mission and goals of the Council.
The Prevention Educator will be responsible to the Assistant and Executive Directors.
Responsibilities:
A. Teach evidence-based programs in preschool or K-12 school settings.
B. Implement Teen Intervene, an evidence-based brief intervention for adolescents experiencing early-stage substance use issues.
C. Prepare materials for programs.
D. Input program data into OASAS Witnys platform.
E. Provide programs or trainings to community agencies.
F. Create prevention messaging for campaigns.
G. Attend community coalition meetings that support the mission.
Required Knowledge and Abilities:
A. Personal commitment to the Prevention of MEB disorders.
B. Able to effectively interact with community professionals to present and promote trainings.
C. Experience teaching and/or presenting programs.
D. Experience working with at-risk youth.
E. Strong Self-Initiative and able to work independently.
F. Good verbal and written communication skills.
G. Good Organizational skills.
H. Proficient in the use of word, Power point ,Google Suite, Zoom
I. Strong facilitation skills and classroom management.
J. Stay current on trends, research, and best practices related to adolescent substance use and behavioral health.
K. Comfort discussing sensitive topics (e.g., drug/alcohol use, mental health, trauma) with youth and families.
Qualifications:
A. Minimum Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited Institution.
B. Two years’ experience providing education on health-related programs.
C. Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
D. Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and cultural competence.
