This position reports directly to the Director, General Accounting and can be based in our Washington, DC or Baltimore, Maryland office. This is a hybrid-remote position working two days each week in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Senior Accountant is responsible for day-to-day general accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, month- and year-end close, cash flow and treasury activities, and bank reconciliations in accordance with internal controls, GAAP, and established policies and procedures. This role performs all responsibilities with a high level of attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness, and ensures audit readiness through proper documentation and reconciliations.

Responsibilities
General Ledger Maintenance and Month-End and Year-end Close
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations; research and analyze discrepancies.
- Prepare month-end and year-end schedules.
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing process, ensuring transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP and internal policies and procedures.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
- Compile and analyze financial information to prepare journal entries for general ledger accounts.
- Maintain fixed asset and inventory schedules.
- Prepare monthly client and donor billings; coordinate with international finance and project teams to ensure invoices meet contractual requirements.
- Prepare and analyze accounts receivable aging reports across all entities, with a primary focus on client/donor and employee receivables; coordinate with relevant colleagues to ensure timely collection and, where applicable, payroll deductions for employee A/R.
- Process and safeguard all cash receipts in accordance with internal control policies and procedures, ensuring proper handling of contributions and other payments to Corus.
- Serve as a key point of contact for staff regarding billing and cash deposit inquiries.
- Ensure source documentation for cash receipt processing is appropriately coded and approved in accordance with each agency's revenue recognition policies.
- Process monthly cash contribution batches and reconcile activity to bank statements, ensuring all receipts agree to monthly cash reports.
- Ensure all cash receipts are deposited and recorded in the general ledger accurately and in a timely manner.
- Prepare and execute drawdowns against letters of credit.
- Review and approve country office cash advances in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Support annual audit activities and Form 990 preparation.
- Identify and recommend process improvements and participate in initiatives to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity.
- Interpret finance policies and provide guidance, coding assistance and instruction to staff.
- Perform certain duties of other accounting personnel during absences.
- Perform analysis and other projects assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Minimum three years of relevant general accounting experience including A/P, A/R, G/L, and other similar accounting functions. Experience with an ERP financial system
- Experience working in an international nonprofit organization a plus.
- Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to follow established processes and internal controls.
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Flexibility and willingness to respond to a rapidly changing environment while managing multiple priorities as part of a cross-functional team.
- Experience with Sage Intacct strongly preferred.
- Experience working in an international nonprofit organization a plus.

- Corus has a hybrid work policy, allowing work to be done remotely; two days per week (Tuesday and Wednesday) in the office is required. The employee must be available to work outside normal office hours or weekends as required.
