Position Overview
This role supports mission-critical Control Center computer systems and enterprise network infrastructure operating in a 24/7, highly regulated environment. The Network Administrator will work as part of a small, dedicated team responsible for the design, integration, security, and reliability of LAN/WAN, firewall, and data center network systems supporting regional transmission operations.
This position requires hands-on technical execution, strong documentation discipline, and experience working in environments where availability, security, and compliance are non-negotiable.
Education & Experience (Required for Consideration)
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a closely related technical field is preferred
- Equivalent professional experience will be considered where applicable
Overall Experience
- 10 years of experience in computer networking and systems, including hands-on infrastructure implementation
- Experience must be aligned with enterprise or mission-critical environments (e.g., utilities, data centers, regulated industries)
Required Technical Skills & Experience
Candidates must demonstrate the following:
- 5 years of hands-on experience working with firewalls and enterprise network systems
- 3 years implementing and maintaining network security controls in a large enterprise or data center environment
- 3 years performing network management and operations in a large enterprise or data center environment
- Proven experience configuring, installing, and troubleshooting:
- Routers and switches
- Firewalls
- Network servers and terminal servers
- Network cabling and fiber infrastructure
- Ability to:
- Establish network performance baselines
- Monitor system reliability and security
- Integrate new devices into live production environments
- Strong technical documentation skills supporting compliance, operations, and training
Preferred Skills & Experience
The following qualifications are strongly preferred and will distinguish top candidates:
- Experience working in enterprise data centers with high-availability requirements
- Familiarity with:
- Server virtualization platforms and networking requirements
- Cisco switching and routing environments
- SAN/NAS storage infrastructure
- AAA (Authentication, Authorization, Accounting) services for infrastructure equipment
- Cabling and fiber management systems
- Knowledge of:
- Vulnerability research tools and methodologies
- Best practices for data center physical infrastructure
- Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and network virtualization
- NERC CIP or other critical infrastructure reliability standards
- Experience with:
- VPN technologies and router encryption
- Fiber optic communication system design
- Preferred Certifications: CCNA, MCSA (or equivalent)
Key Responsibilities
- Integrate and monitor new and existing network devices in Control Center environments
- Support LAN/WAN and firewall infrastructure for mission-critical operations
- Assist with infrastructure planning, system integration, and implementation projects
- Collaborate with engineering, facilities, and field maintenance teams
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, test procedures, and compliance artifacts
- Support approved testing, validation, and acceptance of new systems
- Participate in on-call support for 24/7 operational environments
