Role Description The Staff Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based in Spartanburg, SC. This role is responsible for performing daily accounting activities, including recording journal entries, posting transactions, and maintaining general ledger accounts. The Staff Accountant will assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processing, bank reconciliations, and monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. The role includes preparing financial reports, supporting budget and variance analyses, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and accounting policies. The Staff Accountant will also collaborate with agency leadership and other departments to provide accurate financial data, assist with audits, and support continuous process improvements.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of general accounting principles, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems, as well as intermediate Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, basic formulas).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in all financial work.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- Solid organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively in an on-site team setting while also taking initiative and working independently when needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Previous accounting experience in insurance, financial services, or a multi-location organization is preferred; public accounting or audit experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with internal controls, basic tax concepts, and regulatory or compliance considerations related to financial reporting.
- Commitment to ethical conduct, confidentiality, and continuous professional development (CPA or progress toward certification is a plus).
