Who we are and what we do:

The Tennessee Department of Correction operates and oversees 14 adult prisons across the state, housing some 21,000 offenders. In the community, TDOC supervises 79,000 offenders on probation, parole, or community corrections. The department operates 44 probation/parole offices in 13 districts across the state. The Tennessee Department of Correction operates safe and secure prisons and provides effective community supervision in order to enhance public safety.

Job Overview:

The Correctional Program Director position assists in coordinating the daily administrative services of institutional compliance. Duties and responsibilities include oversight of institutional policy compliance and American Correctional Association (ACA) standards compliance for accreditation. Manage daily operations of TDOC programs and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As a Program Director the position is responsible for assigning and coordinating the daily administrative services of program compliance.
  • This would include oversight of policy compliance and compliance with ACA standards for accreditation.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to TDOC staff, and executive leadership.
  • Prepare and present reports to executive leadership.
  • Oversee, coordinate, and manage the daily functions of the TDOC prisons, process and systems.
  • Evaluate and streamline the administrative processes of the services that Central Office provides to facility personnel.
  • Make recommendations for improvements to processes for a more efficient operation processes and services.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor procedures and policies.
  • Ensure policies and post orders submitted for review are correct and completed timely.
  • Conduct weekly reviews of policy expiration tracking report.
  • Collaborate with other policy/procedure staff
  • Assist the Assistant Commissioner of Prisons in conducting facility site visits to check security practices within each correctional facility, the visits should occur during traditional and non-traditional hours.
  • Visit facilities to monitor the action of staff while on the compounds and within the housing units.
  • Ensure search, and incident policies are being followed.
  • Review use of force packets, images, and video to ensure they meet policy on reporting.
  • Review staff assaults incident reviews received form the facility images, and video to ensure they meet policy on reporting.
  • Review staff rosters for overtime usage and identify trends to reduce the reliance on overtime through proper roster management.
  • Ensure facilities are responding in a timely manner to Division of Claims/CorVel requests for documents or completion of claims.
  • Receives the facilities armory inventories and process according to policy.
  • Receive from STS/TDOC Report Services the draft COMPSTAT monthly spreadsheets for each facility
  • Send to facilities for completion
  • Track completion status
  • Archive data on laptop local drive

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelors degree with five (5) years of correctional experience.

Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time adult correctional experience for an institution may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of four years.
