Tax Specialist
Location Mesa, Arizona | Onsite
COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE
• $65,000 annually
• Full-time; flexible schedule including occasional weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed
ROLE IMPACT
The Tax Specialist supports accurate and timely processing of federal, state, and local payroll tax filings within a multi-state environment. This role ensures compliance, minimizes penalties, and strengthens internal controls through detailed review, research, and collaboration. Success is defined by precision, deadline adherence, and consistent support of payroll and finance operations.
• Prepare and file federal, state, and local payroll tax returns and associated payments
• Research tax regulations and resolve discrepancies, notices, and compliance issues
• Monitor filing deadlines to proactively prevent penalties and non-filing situations
• Support payroll and finance teams with tax guidance and documentation
• Assist with process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy
• Minimum 3 years of experience in multi-state payroll tax processing
• Strong knowledge of payroll tax compliance and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word with strong analytical skills
CORE TOOLS & SYSTEMS
• Payroll and tax filing systems
• Microsoft Excel (data analysis, reporting) and Word
• State and federal e-file/payment platforms
• Standard office equipment including multi-screen computer setup, scanner, copier, and calculator
Preferred Skills
• Experience researching multi-state tax regulations
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a high-volume environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
