ROLE IMPACT
The Manager – Payroll Accounting & Tax Management leads payroll accounting and tax operations for the Controller’s Office. This role ensures accuracy, compliance, and timely financial reporting for all payroll transactions, including journal entries, tax filings, and reconciliations. The position plays a key role in maintaining financial integrity, managing Workday and AMS system integrations, and supporting audits and process improvement initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage and oversee bi-weekly and monthly payroll processing, reconciliations, and general ledger postings.
• Prepare and file quarterly 941 and annual 720 returns, W-2 generation, and payroll tax deposits.
• Reconcile employee retirement contributions, pension accounts, and payroll liabilities; transmit remittances to proper agencies.
• Monitor and resolve payroll system issues in Workday and AMS; conduct testing following updates and upgrades.
• Collaborate with Accounting, Treasury, and Audit functions to ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX, and policy.
• Lead process improvement projects, documentation, and policy updates for payroll accounting and tax functions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Public Administration, Human Resources, or related field.
• 7 years of progressive experience in payroll or HR operations including 3 years of supervisory experience.
• Expert knowledge of payroll laws, reporting requirements, and general ledger accounting principles.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll/accounting systems (Workday, AMS Accounting, or equivalent).
