Responsibilities
In this pivotal leadership role, you will oversee the operations of a major surface water treatment facility, ensuring the delivery of safe, reliable, high-quality water to a community of over 60,000 customers. Working with minimal supervision, you will lead a dedicated team, manage complex treatment systems—including advanced reverse osmosis processes—and uphold the highest standards of safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Implement and enforce safety protocols and standard operating procedures to maintain a secure working environment.
- Coordinate and oversee training programs for operations and maintenance staff to enhance skills and operational efficiency.
- Prepare and review operational reports, including annual budgets, water quality documentation, and regulatory compliance reports.
- Maintain detailed records related to plant operations, ensuring adherence to all regulatory standards.
- Supervise plant operators, maintenance mechanics, laboratory personnel, and other technical staff responsible for facility operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Oversee personnel performing electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical maintenance tasks as needed.
- Lead efforts in plant performance optimization, troubleshooting operational issues, and implementing process improvements.
- Participate in emergency response planning and act as an essential employee during outages or crises.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, biology, chemistry, or a related field, or an associate degree in engineering technology, water treatment technology, or similar discipline.
- Six (6) to nine (9) years of experience in water treatment or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Certification as a Grade A Surface Water Plant Operator and Grade I Physical/Chemical Operator (or state equivalents).
- Completion of membrane treatment/RO operator certification modules (such as SEDA MOC 1 and 2) is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, sound judgment, and strong communication abilities.
- Ability to operate treatment plant and pump station equipment, as well as motor vehicles, physically capable of exerting necessary force up to 100 lbs. occasionally, 50 lbs. frequently, and 10 lbs. continuously.
