Shipyard Construction Manager (Vessel New Build & Delivery)
Job Summary
The ideal candidate will possess extensive shipyard experience, demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, and thrive in a hands-on, high-responsibility environment. This is a unique opportunity to play a critical role in a dynamic, fast-paced shipbuilding setting with significant visibility across operations and executive leadership.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily shipyard activities during vessel construction and commissioning phases.
- Coordinate labor, subcontractors, and vendors to adhere to project schedules.
- Oversee installation, outfitting, and system integration activities.
- Act as the primary liaison with classification societies, inspectors, and owners’ representatives.
- Ensure compliance with USCG, ABS, OSHA, and safety standards.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement corrective measures.
- Lead commissioning efforts, including dock trials, sea trials, and final delivery.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and project management teams.
- Manage documentation, reporting, and change orders efficiently.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across the yard.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in shipyard or marine construction.
- Proven track record overseeing new vessel construction and commissioning.
- Strong knowledge of shipyard trades, sequencing, and vessel systems.
- Experience working with USCG, ABS, and other classification requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Demonstrated leadership and team coordination skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Nice to Have Skills
- Experience managing multiple vessels or large-scale programs.
- Background working directly with vessel owners and regulatory inspectors.
- Hands-on experience with commissioning and sea trials.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related field preferred.
- Extensive experience in shipyard management, ideally 10 years, with a focus on vessel delivery.
