Power Automation Technician Responsibilities
Under minimal supervision, provides technical knowledge and guidance for designated interface groups. Provides installation, diagnostics, repair and reliability of industrial control systems and equipment.
Power Automation Technician Responsibilities
- Interface between staff engineers, external technical representatives, power transmission and distribution representatives, operations, and maintenance personnel. Experience with control system maintenance and associated project development/implementation
- Provides installation, diagnostics, repair and reliability of industrial control equipment (i.e. instrumentation, industrial communications, HMI, PLC, PC interface, protective relaying, power metering, and third party equipment)
- Actively participates in safety and environmental programs and other programs determined by management
- Other duties as assigned
- Completion of an approved electrical/instrumentation certification program and/or minimum of five (5) years electrical/instrumentation repair and maintenance in an industrial setting
- Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety.
- Completion of designated internal certification program within one year of hire
- Experience in SCADA and HMI/PLC based control systems
- Experience in protective relaying and power metering
- Experience with acceptance/commissioning of substation equipment.
- Strong technical knowledge in communication, interfaces and protocols
- Ability to read, understand and apply information from technical manuals, prints, and schematics for trouble shooting and repair
- Valid State Driver's License
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to satisfy training, safety, and electronic message transmission policies of the company
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and both scheduled and unscheduled overtime as business needs dictate
- Able to perform the essential functions of the job at the time of the job offer with or without reasonable accommodations
- High School diploma or GED
- Associates of Applied Science Degree in a technical field
- Experience with harmonic analysis and power load shedding
- Knowledge of power distribution system switching HMI/PLC programming and troubleshooting experience
- Understanding of networking fundamentals Understanding of historical data collection systems
