Job Summary

We are seeking a Licensed Electrician to install residential and commercial grid-tied solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and batteries. Reporting to the Director of Construction, you will collaborate with the Master Electrician and crew members to install all components of fully functional PV systems. Additionally, you will support the apprentice program through hands-on coaching and committee involvement. Your goal will be to ensure project completion with the highest standards of safety, quality, efficiency, and adherence to original plans and NEC specifications.

Responsibilities

  • This position is a multi-skill level position to allow for development in the position. Electricians will be evaluated and compensated based on their ability to accomplish each skill in the levels below. The skill level builds on the individual’s skill level, therefore additional tasks are added as the skill develops. An employee can “level up”, that is, test for the next level every 90 days until they reach the top of the scale.

Skill Level 1

  • Connect solar panels, inverters, and high-voltage equipment to power supplies.

  • Install underground cabling and conduit runs efficiently.
  • Inspect, evaluate, test, and maintain solar systems and associated equipment (e.g., inverters, circuit breakers).
  • Inspect existing electrical systems for code violations and safety compliance.
  • Utilize blueprints and technical diagrams for project completion.
  • Maintain and secure trucks, trailers, and equipment.
  • Report safety incidents and complete accident reports.
  • Collaborate with other installers to ensure product quality.
  • Identify hazards and practice safety standards.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, addressing their questions and concerns.
  • Ensure high quality assurance and control with a focus on safety.
  • Meet with authorities to address questions professionally.
  • Maintain licensure through company training.
  • Document completed work and materials used.

Skill Level 2

  • Perform Level 1 tasks; pass practical tests on conduit bending and wiring.
  • Review system designs for compliance with NEC and best practices.
  • Collaborate with crew to complete electrical projects per codes and procedures.
  • Follow best practices for PV installations and assist in their development.

Skill Level 3

  • Perform Level 1 and 2 tasks; pass written tests on complex topics.
  • Repair or replace PV-related wiring and equipment.
  • Inspect and test batteries, data acquisition systems, and other equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions.

Skill Level 4

  • Complete 12 months of employment and successfully finish Level 1-3 tasks with an average Skill Matrix rating of 3.
  • Support the electrical apprentice program through training and documentation.
  • Evaluate the competency of new hires and apprentices.

Requirements

  • In the State of Michigan, a Journeyman or Master Electrician License.
  • General Construction knowledge
  • Two to three years’ experience with electrical systems; one to three years of solar installation experience preferred
  • Valid State Driver’s License. Ability/desire to obtain CDL certification, preferred
  • MIOSHA Certification, i.e., OSHA 30
