Infection Control Preventionist
Location: Upper Manhattan, NYC
Salary: $100,000 – $115,000
Start Date: December 2025 or January 2026 (High-priority hire)
About the Position
We are seeking an experienced Infection Control Preventionist to lead and oversee infection prevention, employee education, and regulatory compliance within a long-term care environment. This role ensures staff competency, maintains strong infection control practices (including COVID-19 oversight), and partners closely with Nursing Leadership to support quality care and safe clinical operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and maintain the facility’s infection control program, including monitoring infections, reporting to DOH, managing outbreaks, and coordinating immunization programs.
- Provide ongoing staff education and ensure compliance with infection control policies and regulatory standards (DOH, JCAHO).
- Coordinate and facilitate new nursing employee orientation and support clinical education across departments.
- Participate in QAPI, Infection Control Committee, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Support the DON/ADON in addressing performance improvement needs relating to clinical skills and compliance.
- Maintain up-to-date infection control policies, procedures, and staff competencies.
- Track and schedule vaccinations for residents and staff.
- Serve as a resource and liaison with outside agencies, student nurses, and vendors.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
Requirements
- Current RN license in New York State.
- BSN required; Master’s in Education or a healthcare-related field preferred.
- Specialized training in infection prevention and control.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in educational program management; long-term care preferred.
- BCLS certification required.
- APIC certification preferred or equivalent experience.
Preferred Skills
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Experience writing reports, policies, and procedures.
- Proficiency with MS Office.
- Knowledge of performance improvement principles as well as geriatric clinical issues.
