What are the responsibilities and job description for the 3rd Shift Quality Control Technician position at Copper Moon Coffee?
The 3rd shift QC Technician operates within Copper Moon Coffee’s quality department and assumes responsibility for performance monitoring and quality control throughout our production facility, with specific focus to our coffee packaging side. This role requires the ability to communicate very effectively with employees at all levels in the organization. The Quality Technician will be responsible for, among other duties, training all employees on appropriate quality processes and expectations, and detecting any quality issues on the coffee production line(s). The job is divided into a split of product quality testing in a production and laboratory setting and GMP/Food Safety monitoring and enforcement.
Key Responsibilities:
- 3rd Shift at Copper Moon Coffee operates from 11 PM to 7:30 AM.
- The Quality Technician moves from the laboratory out to the production floor in cycles, moving from production line to production line inspecting operator’s work, gathering samples. Once all lines have been inspected, the technician returns to the laboratory to perform a variety of tests on the collected samples.
- Utilize tools and equipment to maintain and improve product quality for bagged and single cup coffee items.
- Monitor key quality components including but not limited to; oxygen levels, packaging integrity, and single cup brewer performance (i.e., actually brewing multiple cups on a single cup brewer).
- Work with Production Managers and Supervisors to improve quality standards.
- Inspect production operators to ensure compliance with Food Safety and Quality Standards.
- Responsible for gaining an innate understanding of Copper Moon Coffee’s production flow and processes.
- Analyze overall quality of any returned/damaged/defective product.
- Maintain lab CGMP environment, including general housekeeping, cleaning, organizing, etc.
- Act as a champion of Quality, driving awareness of the SQF program to 3rd shift and helping operators better understand quality and its importance.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Must be able to critically think and make important decisions quickly and confidently, understanding how to prioritize different issues that arise while working under time constraints.
- Associates/Technical degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Lab experience in lieu of education is also considered; much more strongly considered if the experience is food/beverage-related.
- Very strong general communication and interpersonal communication skills; ability to instruct, aid, assess operator performance and communicate with Maintenance and Management.
- Ability to learn quickly and work independently or as part of a team when required.
