REPORTS TO: Educational Services/Site Admin.
SUMMARY: The job of Health Office Aide is done for the purpose(s) of providing support and clerical assistance to Health Technicians and School Nurses and providing information and/or direction as may be requested.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent
- Social Security Card
- Proof of immunity to Measles and German Measles
- Valid picture ID
- Fingerprint Clearance Card (IVP) https://psp.azdps.gov/services/fccFormTriage

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists with processing of documents, forms, mailings and materials (e.g. attendance, enrollment, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties
- Evaluates situations and events involving students, teachers, parents and the public for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution
- Maintains records files (computer and manual) for the purpose of providing complete and accurate documentation and audit trail
- Assists with programs including hearing and vision and scoliosis screening, etc.
- Assists with administering first-aid, medication and specialized medical treatment for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children
- Responds to inquiries of staff, the public, parents and/or students for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required
- Supports other staff with routine job functions (e.g. photocopying, collating, labeling, distributing material, follow-up calls, etc.) for the purpose of providing assistance with their administrative functions
- Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students personal safety, a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, District and/or school policies
- Reports students with reportable contagious diseases to local public health authorities for the purpose of minimizing infection and complying with the law when the Health Technician/Manager is off campus or under supervision of the Health Technician/Manager
- Assists in performing procedures for students (e.g. feeding tubes, catheterization, toileting plans, etc.) for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students under the supervision of the Health Technician/Manager or when the Health Technician/Manager is unavailable or off campus
- Documents all medical treatments and procedures, which have been administered by the Health Office Aide on the designated computer program on each student’s health log
- Perform such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent/Designee
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Skills are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: performing standard clerical job assignments; utilizing pertinent software applications; utilizing standard office equipment.
Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents and speak clearly; and understand multi-step oral and written instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: various position-specific information learned on-the-job.
Ability is required to schedule activities, meetings and/or events; routinely gather, collate and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: working under time constraints; being attentive to detail; and adhering to safety practices.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods: providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job’s functions. There is some opportunity to impact the Organization’s services.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine-finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 35% sitting, 30% walking and 35% standing. The job is generally performed under minimal temperature variations and some hazardous conditions.
