Why This Role Matters
As an Underground Utility Foreman, you're more than just a supervisor—you’re the backbone of the crew. You’ll manage day-to-day field operations for underground utility installations, including water, sewer, and storm drain systems. You’ll coordinate people, equipment, and materials to make sure work is done safely, efficiently, and up to spec.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and motivate a crew installing underground utilities, ensuring productivity and quality.
- Review project plans and specs to fully understand scope of work.
- Plan daily work, assign tasks, and run efficient pre-shift safety meetings.
- Monitor jobsite safety and immediately address hazards or unsafe behavior.
- Coordinate with the Superintendent and Project Manager on scheduling, materials, and manpower needs.
- Keep daily reports, track quantities, log delays or issues, and approve timecards accurately.
- Ensure utility locates are complete and lines are protected.
- Oversee proper use and care of equipment, tools, and vehicles.
- Train new crew members and enforce safe excavation, trenching, and shoring practices.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe worksite at all times.

What You Bring to the Table
- 3 years of experience installing underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drain)
- Proven leadership experience as a Foreman or Lead
- Deep understanding of excavation safety, shoring, and trench safety practices
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Working knowledge of heavy equipment operations and jobsite logistics
- Willingness to travel to various job sites and stay near remote projects as needed
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Certifications preferred:
- OSHA 10 or 30
- Trench Safety Competent Person
- Confined Space Competent Person
- Traffic Control/Maintainer
- Tyfoom daily training compliance
Work Environment
This is a field-based position—outdoors in all weather, around moving machinery, with physical demands that include lifting, bending, walking, and standing for long periods. You’ll be expected to work where the job takes you, including remote project locations when necessary.
