Position Overview
The Rebar Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive rebar estimates and material takeoffs for commercial and residential construction projects. This role plays a critical part in winning profitable work by ensuring bids are precise, timely, and aligned with company pricing strategy.
You will work closely with outside sales, project managers, and production to ensure a smooth transition from bid to fabrication.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Takeoffs
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and addenda
- Perform detailed rebar takeoffs including quantities, sizes, shapes, and accessories
- Develop accurate and competitive bids based on scope and market conditions
- Identify scope gaps, conflicts, and value engineering opportunities
Bid Management
- Track bid schedules, deadlines, and priorities
- Maintain organized bid files and documentation
- Follow up on submitted bids and track win/loss results
- Continuously improve estimating accuracy and efficiency
Coordination & Handoff
- Collaborate with outside sales on bid strategy and customer needs
- Work with detailing and project management teams for a smooth project transition
- Ensure awarded jobs are clearly defined and properly handed off
Risk & Margin Protection
- Analyze plans for potential risks, omissions, and costly errors
- Ensure pricing reflects labor, fabrication, and market conditions
- Support change orders and revisions as needed
Qualifications
- Experience in rebar estimating, detailing, or construction estimating preferred
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Proficiency in takeoffs and quantity calculations
- Experience with estimating software (ASA, aSa, ProRebar, or similar) is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
