ED Educator

Position Summary:

The ED Educator will play a key role in supporting the operational and educational needs of the Emergency Department. This position works closely with Nursing Leadership, the Director of Professional Development, Risk Management, and Quality, ensuring all regulatory, accreditation and clinical competency standards are met. Additionally, the ED Educator will work on identifying, measuring, and evaluating clinical and departmental outcomes to coordinate staff education, assist with clinical governance activities, and provide administrative support to ensure efficient department functioning and high-quality patient care.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree (BSN) in Nursing required or development plan as agreed upon by CNO.

Experience

• Minimum 2 years ED experience or equivalent required.
• Experience in nursing professional development preferred.
• Experience as nurse preceptor, charge nurse or other informal/formal ED leadership required.
• Three years of experience in planning, implementing and evaluating education programs in the nursing field preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

• Current South Carolina (or compact state) licensure as RN (SCLLR) in good standing required.

• Certification BLS, ACLS, PALS required, and TNCC preferred.
• Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Design and deliver orientation programs for new ED staff.
• Develop and facilitate ongoing clinical education, skills labs and assessments.
• Coordinate mandatory training and certifications.
• Provides consultative services to projects and departments requiring educational expertise in the implementation of instructional technology.
• Provide just-in-time training and support for new equipment, procedures, and protocols.
• Collaborate with ED leadership and Quality to identify educational needs based on performance metrics, incident reports and quality improvement initiatives.
• Ensures compliance with DNV, CMS, state regulations, and ANA standards of practice. 
• Participates in shared governance councils, Pathway to Excellence initiatives, and organizational committees
• Support initiatives to improve patient safety, throughput and satisfaction.
• Maintain accurate records of staff education, competencies and certifications.
• Participate in committees and task forces related to emergency services.
• Analyzing tracking and managing data
• Assist with audits, incident reviews and quality improvement initiatives
• Support data collection and reporting for accreditation, safety and performance metrics

•  Develops and implements policies and procedures based on evidence-based practice projects, and protocol reviews with Director of ED

• Work effectively and collaboratively with coworkers, nursing colleagues, physicians, and department heads.

• Assist with general nursing orientation and annual mandatories and willing to assist other departments/educators when needed.
• Complete other tasks as assigned.
• Ability to jump in and lend a hand to staff on the floor at busy times.
