Ministry Function:
The Disaster Services Volunteer Manager supports Disaster Services operations during both non-response and deployment times by managing all aspects of volunteer engagement, recruitment, scheduling, communication, and retention. This role also collaborates closely with Disaster Services leadership to coordinate, develop, and support volunteer training initiatives while overseeing volunteer systems and data management and building strong relationships with disaster volunteers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with department leadership, oversees communication and scheduling for Disaster Services (DS) volunteers.
- Provides oversight of recruitment and retention strategies for DS Lead Volunteers as needed.
- Deploys as part of the initial disaster response team as assigned providing leadership and oversight of volunteer operations in the field including daily volunteer processing.
- Manages the collection, tracking, and reporting of all volunteer-related data with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Onboards newly trained Lead Volunteers and ensures completion of all required documentation.
- Responds to calls and inquiries regarding DS volunteer opportunities with clarity and professionalism.
- Maintains and manages the DS volunteer database.
- Ensures volunteers maintain proper certifications and are trained in current protocols, safety standards, and best practices.
- Engages with volunteers in a ministry capacity including the ability to comfortably and authentically communicate about their faith, the Church, and the Lord when appropriate.
- Clearly and confidently communicates Convoy of Hope’s mission, values, and Disaster Services efforts to volunteers and stakeholders.
- As a member of the Program Division, supports other programs as assigned.
- Fulfills all other duties as assigned.
Required, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Two plus years’ experience in disaster services, church/compassion ministry, or related field required. A bachelor’s degree preferred; a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Prior experience in volunteer management, event coordination, or related fields preferred.
- Ability and willingness to deploy often on short notice for up to several weeks at a time as required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to confidently present, instruct, and engage diverse audiences as well as create, edit, and proofread correspondence.
- Displays excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Is highly organized with strong problem-solving abilities, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Ability to engage in faith-based conversations with volunteers including discussing the Church, personal faith, and the Lord in a way that aligns with Convoy of Hope’s mission and values.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment and contribute to planning and evaluation processes.
- Exhibits strong Mac or PC proficiency and working knowledge of Google Workspace and Microsoft Office, with the ability to quickly learn Salesforce or other CRM systems as needed.
- The ability to obtain a Class A and/or Class B driver’s license is preferred.
- Must obtain ServSafe Food Handler certification within 3 months of employment.
- Must obtain applicable Forklift certification within six months of employment.
- Must have or obtain CPR / AED / Basic First Aid certification within six months of employment.
- Completion of FEMA courses (IS) 20, 26, 35, 100, 200, 240, 241, 242, 403, 632, 700 and 800 prior to employment or within one year of employment.
