Ministry Function:

The DR Response Manager supports the ministry of Convoy of Hope and the Disaster Relief team by responding to disaster events throughout the United States and internationally. Responsibilities could include leading the setup and oversight of overall field operations during active responses, as assigned, and contributing to departmental projects during peacetime as determined by department leadership. This position is deployable and could serve in the Convoy of Hope Disaster Operations Center, as needed.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Deploys as part of the response team in the U.S. and internationally to provide oversight for the setup and operation of relief efforts, including—but not limited to—POD sites, field distribution centers, and debris removal operations, as assigned.
  2. Deploys as a Disaster Assessor and makes comprehensive recommendations to DR leadership, as assigned.
  3. Provides management for responses in which Convoy of Hope does not have a physical field presence, consistently communicating with partners to ensure relief efforts are carried out, completed, and reported accurately, as required.
  4. Provides leadership on projects, during active responses and/or peacetime as assigned.  Duties may involve supervisory responsibilities to ensure completion.
  5. Coordinates the distribution of disaster supplies, and/or the management and maintenance of equipment during assigned responses.
  6. Assists with long-term recovery efforts and/or partner support, as assigned.
  7. Assists with volunteer management and/or training, as assigned.
  8. During active disasters serves as field supervisor, as assigned.
  9. During peacetime, may be assigned to various projects within the DS department.
  10. Follows general and equipment specific safety rules. Uses appropriate safety protection equipment and other safety devices, as required.
  11. As a member of the Program Division, supports other programs, as assigned.
  12. Fulfills all other duties, as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Three years’ experience in disaster services or church/compassion ministry or related work is required. A bachelor's degree in a related field preferred; a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  2. Ability and willingness to deploy often on short notice for up to several weeks at a time.
  3. Ability to positively contribute to team projects, cooperate with team members and assist supervisors with planning and evaluation.
  4. International travel experience is preferred.
  5. The ability to obtain an international passport is required.
  6. Excellent interpersonal communication and mediation skills and tact are a must.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for creating, editing and proofreading correspondence.
  8. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, the ability to multi-task, be detail oriented and manage deadlines.
  9. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
  10. Must be able to traverse work areas by walking, climbing stairs, and by operating a forklift.
  11. Must be able to stand, bend, crawl, stretch, lay, and squat frequently to maintain equipment.
  12. Must have or obtain “ServSafe Food Handler” certification within 90 days of employment.
  13. Must have or obtain applicable Forklift Certification within 60 days of employment.
  14. Must have or obtain chainsaw operator and safety certification within one year of employment.
  15. Must have or obtain CPR/AED/Basic First Aid certification within 60 days of employment.
  16. Completion of required FEMA and NIMS courses prior to employment or within 6 months of employment.
  17. Exhibits strong Mac or PC proficiency and working knowledge of Google Workspace and Microsoft Office, with the ability to quickly learn other COH systems as needed.
  18. Must be at least 25 years of age to be eligible for this position due to organizational driving and insurance requirements.

  6. Positively represents the ministry of Convoy of Hope, including its mission statement and core values, to all outside constituencies.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:   

This position may have direct supervisory responsibilities of volunteers and/or team members.
