Job Description
The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the planning, design, and execution of conveyor and industrial automation projects across multiple phases. This role works closely with sales and cross-functional teams to coordinate project activities, support technical design efforts, drive procurement activities, and ensure successful project delivery. An electrical background is preferred to support system design and integration. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically capable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Lead the planning and execution of engineering projects from concept through completion
· Lead the design, development, and modification of electrical systems, schematics, and control panels for conveyor and automation systems
· Coordinate project activities, including scheduling, documentation, and deliverable tracking
· Collaborate with sales, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and installation teams to ensure project success
· Review technical drawings, specifications, and submittals
· Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements (NEC, UL, etc.)
· Monitoring project progress, timelines, and costs
· Assist the Sales Team with the proposal process by providing technical input and scope details
· Lead in managing project documentation, revisions, and change orders
· Communicate with customers and vendors to support project requirements and timelines
· Assist in managing vendor and subcontractor relationships
· Drive procurement of materials and equipment for projects
· Stay up to date with industry standards, technologies, and best practices in engineering and automation
· Communicate regularly with the President to provide updates on project progress, technical considerations, and key initiatives
Required Experience/Skills
· Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or a related field with an electrical background
· Experience in a small business environment within a manufacturing or engineering industry
· 2–5 years of experience in project engineering, engineering support, or a related role
· General understanding of engineering principles, with exposure to electrical systems or industrial automation
· Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (NEC, UL, etc.) is a plus
Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Excellent organizational and time management abilities
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
· Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering/design software (e.g., AutoCAD or similar)
Nice-to-Haves
· Experience in conveyor systems or material handling
· Electrical background or experience with control panels, wiring diagrams, or industrial systems
· Experience with PLCs, HMIs, or automation control systems
· Familiarity with ERP or project tracking systems
· Experience with cost estimation and budgeting
