About the Company

An established electrical construction and engineering organization is seeking an Industrial Electrical Estimator to support the development of competitive proposals for power infrastructure and complex industrial projects.

About the Role

This position is responsible for converting drawings, specifications and bid requirements into complete electrical cost estimates. The estimator will evaluate labor requirements, material quantities, equipment needs, subcontractor coverage and project risks before a proposal is submitted.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed estimates for industrial and power-related electrical construction projects.
  • Complete material and equipment takeoffs using construction drawings, specifications and bid documents.
  • Calculate labor hours, crew requirements, material costs, equipment expenses and subcontracted work.
  • Review proposal instructions, RFIs, addenda and contract documents to identify scope requirements and potential cost exposure.
  • Build and maintain estimates using ConEst IntelliBid or a comparable electrical estimating platform.
  • Obtain current pricing and lead-time information from manufacturers, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Evaluate vendor quotations for completeness, accuracy and compliance with the project requirements.
  • Identify scope gaps, exclusions, assumptions and technical risks before bids are finalized.
  • Prepare labor breakdowns, material lists and estimate documentation for awarded projects.
  • Participate in bid reviews, project handoffs and customer discussions when needed.
  • Work with sales, engineering, operations, accounting and field personnel to resolve estimating and cost-related questions.
  • Compare estimated costs with actual project performance and use the findings to improve future bids.
  • Help maintain pricing databases, labor units, estimating standards and historical cost information.
  • Provide guidance to junior estimators and help promote consistent estimating practices.
  • Stay informed about electrical codes, construction methods, material pricing and industry developments.

Qualifications

  • At least three years of electrical estimating experience involving industrial facilities, utility infrastructure or similarly complex electrical construction.
  • Practical knowledge of electrical materials, installation methods and labor requirements.
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs and preparing complete labor-and-material estimates.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, specifications and related construction documents.
  • At least two years of experience using an electrical estimating program such as ConEst IntelliBid, Trimble Accubid or McCormick.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PDF review or markup software such as Bluebeam Revu.
  • Understanding of job costing, overhead, markups, margins and bid-risk analysis.
  • Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to organize multiple estimates while meeting firm submission deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work from the San Antonio office five days per week.

Preferred Skills

  • Degree or technical education in construction management, electrical technology, engineering or a related field.
  • Estimating experience involving substations, switchgear, transformers, medium-voltage distribution, transmission systems or renewable-energy projects.
  • Previous experience supporting EPC or design-build construction.
  • Familiarity with vendor negotiations, project handoffs and post-award cost analysis.
