Conventus is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Vice President (VP) for our Construction Department to join our team at a crucial stage in our company's growth. As the VP of the Construction Department, you will play a vital role in our success by executing our mission to serve our clients and investors. The ideal candidate should possess construction and lending experience, be detail-oriented, highly organized, and be genuinely committed to going the extra mile for our customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Construction Underwriting Analysis
- Oversee and mentor the Construction Underwriting team
- Analyze construction project documents submitted by our borrowers, including the scope of work, quotes, plans, permits, and project schedules.
- Review the borrower's submitted scope of work and conduct due diligence to understand the project's feasibility and the client's operational capacity.
- Review loan files, establish the risk of the proposed project, and make an independent final call.
- Communicate time-sensitively with sales, operations, servicing, credit, and capital markets teams regarding construction risk before and after closing.
- Deliver analysis to the valuation department and collaborate to resolve any project concerns.
Pushing the Department Forward (Projects)
- Build out our ground-up construction program
- This includes: maintaining guidelines, implementation of construction milestones
- Further enhancing and defining our ground-up construction program as Conventus continues to do larger and more complex ground-up construction loans
- Potentially onboarding a new draw management software
- Develop and implement strategies to acquire and retain construction lending customers, including expansion into new channels
- Establish and develop relationships with clients and general contractors that could help with any construction loans that are distressed
- Monitoring and reporting on active construction loans
- Outreach to borrowers that are behind on construction projects
- Covenant monitoring
- Building and maintaining a database of past construction projects in order to compare costs to build
Draw Management & Analysis
- Oversee and mentor the Draws team
- Oversee the disbursement of funds for construction projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project budgets and timelines.
- Review inspection reports, change orders, and documents obtained from borrowers and vendors to assess construction progress and risk and verify draw disbursements.
- Provide continuous feedback to improve project screening and risk modeling.
- Collaborate with borrowers, inspectors, and investors to address any discrepancies or issues with draw requests.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and requirements
- Be an ambassador of the Conventus brand through regular communication with our clients. Although this is not a sales position, many of the same skills are essential to your success, including patience, empathy, and communication.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor's degree is required.
- 7 years' experience in construction lending or construction management industry.
- Strong understanding of construction procedures and terminologies.
- Experience in reviewing construction contracts and scopes of work.
- Ability to understand construction project plans and specifications.
- Proficiency in project management and construction budgeting.
- Customer-facing experience with strong communication skills through emails and phone calls.
- Previous experience in team management or leadership roles
- Possess a strong ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
