Overview
We are seeking a motivated Apprentice Electrician / BMS Controls Technician to assist with the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical and Building Management Systems (BMS) in commercial and industrial environments. This role provides hands-on training while supporting HVAC, lighting, and automation systems under the guidance of experienced technicians, with a strong focus on safety, learning, and skill development.
Responsibilities
Work on construction and service sites in a variety of weather and environmental conditions.
Support licensed electricians and journeypersons with the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems.
Assist in installing, wiring, and maintaining electrical and BMS control systems, including HVAC, lighting, and temperature control systems.
Provide support during commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of BMS controllers, sensors, and field devices under supervision.
Learn to identify and diagnose electrical and control system issues using approved testing and diagnostic tools.
Assist with preventive and corrective maintenance of building automation systems.
Read and interpret basic blueprints, schematics, and control drawings with guidance.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all job sites.
Properly use and care for tools, materials, and equipment.
Assist with material handling, site setup, and job site cleanup.
Comply with all safety regulations, company policies, and applicable electrical codes (NEC/CEC).
Assist with maintaining accurate service records and project documentation.
Participate in on-the-job training, apprenticeship schooling, and technical development opportunities.
Qualifications
Registered Apprentice Electrician or enrolled in an electrical apprenticeship program (or willingness to enroll).
Basic understanding of electrical systems and a strong interest in Building Management Systems (BMS/BAS).
Willingness to learn control wiring, low-voltage systems, and HVAC controls.
Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving mindset.
Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
Reliable, safety-conscious, and eager to develop a career in electrical and automation systems.
Prior exposure to HVAC controls, sensors, or automation systems is an asset but not required.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as required.
