JOB SUMMARY
A member of the leadership team, the Finance Director works closely with the Executive Director to provide strategic guidance on the financial operations of the organization, while overseeing the daily operations of the Finance Department.
The Finance Director delivers financial reports to the Board of Directors and prepares for the annual audit. Given the organization’s complex funding sources, this role is responsible for establishing and maintaining internal controls and oversight of all financial transactions, including cash management, contracts, payroll, grants management, and medical billing reconciliation.

STATUS: Exempt, Full-Time
Supervision Exercised: Finance team (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Finance Director must demonstrate the ability to connect processes, events, and systems, balancing detailed process orientation with strategic, big-picture thinking. This role requires proactively identifying problems and solutions, supporting system-level performance improvement, and educating non-financial staff on budget management and financial processes.
As a leadership team member, this role partners with HR, IT, and Clinical Operations to integrate systems and support organizational effectiveness.
Accounting & Financial Management
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems in compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
- Maintain internal controls and safeguards for revenue, expenses, and program budgets
- Coordinate all audit activity, including single audit
- Analyze financial data and present accurate, timely reports (monthly, quarterly, annual)
- Communicate financial status clearly to leadership
- Lead annual budgeting and planning processes; analyze variances and recommend corrective actions
- Support Executive Director in engaging Board audit and finance committees
- Monitor grant budgets, expenses, and compliance requirements
- Manage federal grant financial reporting and compliance
- Oversee financial, program, and grant accounting to ensure alignment with funding requirements
- Review and manage contracts, including negotiation support and compliance with Medicaid/Medicare
- Oversee billing processes, including denied claims, appeals, and reconciliations
- Conduct periodic billing audits
- Manage cash flow forecasting in partnership with program leadership
- Track investment performance in alignment with policies
Leadership
- Develop and support finance team members through clear roles, training, and performance expectations
- Improve efficiency in financial processes and reduce administrative burden across departments
- Strengthen internal communication and promote a positive, collaborative work environment
- Provide training and support to program managers on financial management
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 7 years of accounting experience with strong GAAP knowledge
- Experience with accounting software and financial reporting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Payroll experience preferred
- Minimum 3 years in a leadership role
- Healthcare and grant-funded environment experience highly desirable
- Experience with medical billing systems preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Education / Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- MBA or CPA preferred
Additional Requirements
- Clear background check and ability to pass drug screening
- Must pass OIG and SAM exclusion checks
- 3 professional references required
Work Environment
Primarily sedentary office work requiring computer use, data entry, and document review. Occasional local travel to program sites may be required.
