The Shop Assistant supports daily shop operations by maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment and providing assistance across multiple departments. Core responsibilities include shop upkeep, confined space attendant duties, facility and equipment maintenance, staging lot organization, and general support for the Shop Supervisor, Technicians, Parts Department, and Front Office. This position also assists with seasonal tasks such as snow removal and basic equipment care.
Shop & Facility Upkeep
- Clean and maintain all workshop areas, service bays, outer storage buildings, and the trailer staging lot (sweeping, wiping down surfaces, removing trash, maintaining fence lines).
- Support Shop Supervisors with daily operational tasks, including guiding trailers into bays and serving as a Confined Space Entry Attendant.
- Assist Trailer Technicians by retrieving parts, lifting/holding components, moving equipment, and cleaning bays after repairs.
Parts Department Support
- Assist the Parts Specialist with organizing parts storage areas, receiving and organizing newly delivered parts, removing packaging, and performing parts inventories.
- Drive the company parts truck to off-site vendors to pick up parts as needed.
Front Office Support
- Conduct daily “Lot Checks” for accurate trailer staging and documentation.
Seasonal & Equipment-Related Tasks
- Assist with snow removal using a company pickup with plow, shoveling, and salt application.
- Operate bobcat and payloader for snow removal after training.
- Perform basic maintenance on machinery and heavy equipment (cleaning, fluids, tire pressure checks).
General Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow instructions, learn quickly, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Positive attitude and willingness to support the team.
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Ability to learn and operate heavy equipment (forklift, scissor lift, pickup truck, Yard Horse, bobcat, payloader).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work an 8-hour shift or longer, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
- Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift over 75 lbs. with assistance.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access shelving.
- Ability to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment (training provided).
- Ability to work in shop or warehouse environments with varying temperatures.
- Adequate visual and manual dexterity to perform assigned tasks. Ability to learn and operate heavy equipment (forklift, scissor lift, pickup truck, Yard Horse, bobcat, payloader).
Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 7am-4pm
