What are the responsibilities and job description for the Key Account Manager – Packaging position at Contempo Specialty Packaging?
About Contempo Packaging
Located in Providence, Rhode Island, Contempo is a second-generation family business with over 45 years of delivering exceptional packaging solutions for leading brands and retailers. Originally known for our award‑winning fashion packaging, we expanded into the cannabis sector in 2017 and today serve multiple CPG industries with custom, sustainable, and innovative packaging.
What sets us apart is our proven track record, commitment to sustainability, and hands‑on, personalized customer service. We’re not just making packaging — we’re creating experiences and partnerships that last.
The Role
We are seeking a proactive, detail‑oriented Key Account Manager to manage high‑value client relationships and guide projects from concept to delivery.
This is not a call‑center “customer service” position — you will own your accounts, build strong partnerships, and ensure every detail is managed with care and precision.
The ideal candidate is a relationship‑builder with business polish — someone who can communicate clearly, sell through trust, and manage complex projects without letting details slip. You’ll work closely with our art, production, and logistics teams to make sure client expectations are not only met, but exceeded.
What You’ll Do
Client Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for your assigned accounts.
- Build and maintain long‑term, trust‑based relationships.
- Understand client goals, brand standards, and project needs.
Project & Order Management
- Oversee the end‑to‑end lifecycle of packaging projects — from quoting to delivery.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
- Track orders and proactively update clients on status and next steps.
Sales & Growth Support
- Identify opportunities to grow existing accounts through consultative selling.
- Support the quoting process by gathering accurate project information.
- Help prepare proposals, presentations, and packaging recommendations.
Communication & Accuracy
- Respond quickly to client emails and calls with clear, accurate, professional communication.
- Coordinate design changes and approvals with the art department.
- Ensure all project details are entered accurately for smooth internal hand‑offs.
Who You Are
A natural relationship‑builder who enjoys working with people.
Detail‑oriented, organized, and committed to delivering on promises.
Comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities without losing focus.
Able to spot opportunities for account growth and act on them.
Proactive and self‑driven — you don’t wait to be told what to do.
Qualifications
- 2 years in account management, client services, or project management — ideally in packaging, printing, manufacturing, or a related industry.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent grammar and professional email etiquette.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic CRM tools.
- Experience managing B2B client relationships with ongoing projects.
