Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary Of Job Responsibilities

The Sr Mgr, EPC Mgmt is responsible for overseeing the work of a team of project managers and acts as a liaison between the team, functional business partners and upper management levels. The Sr Mgr, EPC Mgmt may also be in charge of extensive and highly complex projects that require staff and resources of sizeable magnitude. These programs could involve complex research and development, an extensive engineering project that involves a major part of the Company or an engineering project that is critical to the achievement of a key strategic objective of the Company. They provide overall management and supervision for project management in their span of control. The Sr Mgr, EPC Mgmt manages a very large portfolio of projects and works closely with other departments, such as engineering and operations, to: (1) ensure the project management team is meeting the needs of the business; (2) support the development and implementation of new cross-functional processes and procedures; (3) communicate and resolve issues; (4) develops and enforces project management standards with their team. The Sr Mgr, EPC Mgmt ensures that staff goals are developed, reviewed, and professional development occurs for staff in their span of control.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leading the HVD EPC Program Management organization, overseeing the scope, schedule, and budget along with execution readiness of capital programs supporting Substations, Metro, Lines, and Interconnection projects across the business unit.
  • Builds, develops, and leads a high-performing Program Management team responsible for program planning, risk management, schedule integration, cross-functional coordination, and executive reporting to ensure successful delivery of HVD capital investment objectives.
  • Establishes program management standards, processes, and performance expectations across multiple capital programs, driving alignment among Engineering, Construction, Operations, Supply Chain, Real Estate, Environmental and external stakeholders to achieve safe, reliable, and cost-effective outcome to deliver on our workplan within budget.
  • Validate team has overall project execution plans and metric tracking including material procurement, milestone payment schedules, cash flow planning, communications, risk analysis and mitigation, resource management, and others as well as manages multiple complex projects in various stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Confirm project schedules are with EPM Project Scheduling group in Primavera 6. Ensure that Project Manager team has the proper training to must develop schedule concepts, constraints, integrate risks and risk mitigations, items in appropriate level of detail, track schedule process, and communicate schedule to project team. Lead the project manager to prepare financial forecasts and provide on-going reconciliation of resources and other related project expenditures.
  • Provide clear and accurate communications, discussions, negotiations with stakeholders including preparing and performing presentations for CE leadership and external stakeholders and outside agencies.

Other Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Coach project manager team to identify and manage risks, issues and constraints impacting project execution, develop contingency plans and mitigation strategies. Assist with complex contracting strategies and approval of contracts.
  • Facilitate and encourage team to identify and recommend new processes (including cross functional across departments), techniques and standards that drive performance and process improvement and problem solving on existing, complex projects for process improvements. Actively work with the EPM project management office to improve processes to be more efficient and continuously improve project outcomes.
  • Provide ethical leadership within the Consumers Energy 3rd Party Code of Conduct. Work closely with Compliance as needed if issues arise.
  • Lead the development of execution plans on Corporate directed goals (Safety, Waste Elimination, DE&I, Cost Competitiveness, Cost Predictability, Culture Index improvements, Environmental Compliance)
  • Serve in a managerial capacity over a group of Project Managers and technical employees to execute complex projects in accordance with project management practices and Enterprise Project Management (EPM) processes. Lead all aspects of projects from initiation through execution, ensuring adherence to scope, budget, and schedule per EPM processes.
  • Ensure project planning and execution according to the EPM Project Lifecycle Process (PLP) ncluding preparation of: Project Charter documents, Project Management Plans, Scoping Documents, Risk Registers, financial forecast and tracking, Schedule planning and adherence and other standardized project management deliverables while meeting the agreed upon scope, cost, schedule and quality objectives. Serve as reviewer, recommender and approver in the EPM project lifecycle Stage Gate Process. Actively align project with business needs and goals.
  • Lead team in individual goal development, training opportunities, career growth opportunities and resource support of team projects.
  • Responsible for assessing, training and motivating their staff.
  • Provide extensive leadership to mentor staff in project management techniques and processes to generate successful project outcomes. The Project Manager is responsible for providing leadership to project teams, both internal and external to Consumers Energy, in the planning, design, execution, commissioning and closeout for utility projects/programs.(while integrating all applicable regulatory and environmental standards and procedures).

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Applied Engineering or Relevant Field with 7 years of experience in applied engineering or equivalent working experience, including project management experience
  • [OR] Associate's Degree in Applied Engineering or Relevant Field with 9 years of experience in applied engineering or equivalent working experience, including project management experience
  • [OR] High School Diploma with 11 years of experience in applied engineering or equivalent working experience, including project management experience

Certifications

  • Required Certifications/Licensures:(Project Management Professional (PMP))
