Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support and care to individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring their safety, well-being, and quality of life. You will assist clients with daily living activities and promote their independence while fostering a positive and supportive environment in our Adult Day Program locations.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including personal hygiene, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Provide patient care and support in various settings such as group homes, assisted living facilities, or in-home care.
- Monitor clients’ health by taking vital signs and observing changes in their condition.
- Implement care plans tailored to individual needs, ensuring adherence to established guidelines.
- Administer medications as prescribed and assist with mobility using equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Engage clients in social activities and promote community involvement to enhance their quality of life.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients by performing light cleaning duties.
- Document client progress and report any significant changes to the appropriate personnel while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to clients, particularly those with Alzheimer’s or dementia care needs.
Qualifications
- Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a caregiving role is preferred (e.g., group home experience, nursing home experience).
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR is essential; certification is a plus.
- Experience in home health, hospice care, or long-term care settings is beneficial.
- Strong skills in patient observation and monitoring for any changes in behavior or health status.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting clients with mobility needs.
- Familiarity with meal preparation and cooking for individuals with specific dietary requirements.
- Compassionate demeanor with excellent communication skills; ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently.
- Understanding of social work principles related to caregiving is advantageous.
