Title: Workday Functional Consultant
Location: Remote or hybrid if local to offices
Target Start Date: ASAP
Type: CTH – Contract to Hire
Pay Rate: DOE
Why Work Here
This organization is a well-established, financially stable company with a strong commitment to investing in its people and its technology infrastructure. The HR and IT teams work closely together in a collaborative environment where functional expertise is genuinely valued and contributions are recognized. This is a role with real visibility where you will serve as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders while helping shape how Workday grows across the enterprise. The company is in an active phase of platform expansion, meaning this is an opportunity to be part of meaningful, long-term transformation work rather than routine maintenance. For professionals who enjoy a balance of strategic influence and hands-on execution, this environment offers both.
About the Role
This position supports the ongoing development and optimization of Workday across HR and business operations. The consultant will work closely with HR end users, technical teams, and leadership to configure the system, build custom reports, and ensure integrations run smoothly. A key part of the role involves translating business needs into technical solutions and helping non-technical users get the most out of the platform. In addition to day-to-day support, the consultant will contribute to longer-term expansion efforts as Workday grows into additional functional areas. This is a hands-on, high-impact role suited for someone who is self-directed and thrives in a remote team setting.
Responsibilities
• Partner with HR business users and technical teams to provide practical guidance on Workday configuration and system capabilities
• Support the Workday Recruiting module, including workbook completion, process documentation, and workflow improvements
• Design, build, and optimize custom Workday reports including advanced, composite, and custom report types
• Provide integration support between Workday and connected HR or business systems, including troubleshooting data flow issues
• Serve as a liaison between non-technical stakeholders and technical teams, translating business requirements into system solutions
• Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement and HRIS optimization
• Deliver knowledge transfer and informal training to internal team members
• Contribute to longer-term Workday expansion initiatives, including future migration of finance and procurement functions
• Collaborate effectively with remote team members across Americas time zones
Required Skills
• 3 or more years of hands-on experience with Workday HCM and Recruiting modules in a project or operational support capacity
• Demonstrated ability to design, build, and deliver Workday reports including advanced, composite, and custom report types
• Experience supporting Workday integrations and troubleshooting data flow issues between systems
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical users and vice versa
• Proven track record of supporting HR teams with both day-to-day questions and project-based initiatives
• Experience with business process documentation and end-user training
• Ability to work independently or as part of a distributed team with a proactive, hands-on approach
Bonus / Soft Skills
• Workday certification in HCM, Recruiting, or Reporting
• Background supporting Workday in insurance, financial services, or another regulated industry
• Comfort navigating ambiguity and shifting priorities in a growing technology environment
